Fleece Softballs

These cute little balls are easy to make and can be donated to charitable organizations for young children.

Materials

  • Pattern

  • Clean and unused fleece in two different, but matching colors

  • New, unused stuffing (found at Wal-Mart or craft stores in fabric section)

  • Embroidery needle

  • Embroidery floss

Instructions

  1. Cut 6 wedges of 2 different colors of fleece (try to make the colors corresponding and interesting for the children).

  2. Separate floss - Floss comes in 6 strands.  Only three are needed for this project.

  3. Thread your needle with the three strands of floss, and put a knot at the bottom.

  4. Begin sewing two colors of the fleece wedges together, but make sure the knot is on the inside.  Use the whip stitch or the blanket stitch to sew these together (look these up on YouTube or see the video).

  5. Make sure your stitches are even and are no further apart than about 1/4”.

  6. After the first two are sewn together, add another panel on.

  7. Continue until five panels are sewn together.

  8. Begin sewing the 6th panel to the first panel until it is half way sewn.

  9. Slowly and carefully begin to stuff the ball with the stuffing.  Do not overfill, but put enough in to help the ball maintain its shape.

  10. Finish sewing the opening.

  11. Secure both ends of the ball where the tips of the wedges may be sticking up.  Sew a couple stitches in opposite panels together

  12. Make sure that the knot is tucked inside the ball

  13. Use your hands to fluff and shape the ball
